The Samoyed of the Year is our most prestigious and eagerly awaited event and takes the format of a knock out competition approved by the Kennel Club and held in conjunction with a Dinner Dance, Evening dress is preferred.
The first contest was held in 1996 and immediately became a firm fixture on the Samoyed calendar. The first events were judged by three British judges and then in 1998 it was decided to add a Puppy of the year contest as well as extend the invitation to an overseas judge whose identity is known only by a select few until the commencement of the event itself. This has proved to be an enormously successful format and judges have been brought in from America, Australia and all over Europe.
Additionally on occasion the society awards a Gold Medal during the evening to a person or dog who has given outstanding service or contributions to the Samoyed Breed, This is at the discretion of the committee although nominations can be made by any member.
