MISSION STATEMENT

To promote the breeding of Samoyeds and to maintain the established standard for the breed, which shall be accepted as the sole standard.

To urge the adoption of the standard upon breeders, judges and show committees as the only recognised standard by which Samoyeds are to be judged.

To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by supporting approved shows.

To advise, assist and help all members in matters concerning Samoyeds.

The Samoyed lives with us today, unspoiled. With your help and support we can maintain it this way for our children and grandchildren, so the joy of knowing a true Samoyed may never be lost.

ABOUT THE NORTHERN SAMOYED SOCIETY

The Northern Samoyed Society was founded in 1962 by a number of Samoyed owners who were interested in furthering the breed in the North of England. The Society adopted the colours of red and white.

One of the earliest Secretaries was our current President, Kath Mitchell who took over from Ethel Hobson. Our late President, Muriel Hopkin was a President for over 25 years having been a founder member. Mr. W.E. Russell "Bill" was one of the first Chairmen.

Initially, shows were held at venues such as Denton, Altrincham and Wythenshawe, all in the Manchester area. The Society was granted Championship Status in 1970.

In the beginning, minutes, show schedules and the NSS Newsletter were produced by dedicated members working in freezing garages with a very inky and messy duplicator!

During the 1970's and 1980's an Annual Dinner Dance was held at The Waterloo Hotel, Taddington, Nr. Buxton, Derbys. As there were no drink/driving laws in those days, these do's were very well attended. Rallies were also held annually, some combined with other Societies which proved to be great fun days. Memories include a Strawberry Cream Tea Rally with Leigh Canine Society and Rallies with the Northern Pyrenean Mountain Dog Club, which resulted in the great sausage race.

The Society supports classes at certain shows by offering prize money and trophies to exhibitors. These shows offer great opportunities for up and coming judges on our approved lists. We have two representatives on the Breed Liaison Council and fully participate in Council activites</
